In my environment of 75 users all of them have at least 1 instance of SQL 2K5 EE installed. I would like to upgrade all of them to SQL SP3. However, I cannot perform this automatic upgrade using WSUS because XML Core Services 6.0 (KB954459) is installed and is causing the SP3 installation to fail.
The only way to get rid of KB954459 seems to be to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301) to remove the XML 6.0 installation (Add/Remove programs fails 90% of the time).
Now here is my question: how can I automate the process of uninstalling KB954459 with the Cleanup Utility and then install SQL SP3? I’m guessing I’m probably out of luck, but I’m hoping that I’m wrong. BTW, the Cleanup Utility is not installed on most of the machines, except for the few I’ve done this for manually in the past.
