I’m in the process of replacing a Windows 2003 terminal server with a 2008 R2 terminal server at a boarding school. All of the staff and students use roaming profiles at the school. On the 2003 terminal server, all of the students shared a single mandatory profile while staff each had their own profile.

We’d like to keep the same setup in 2008.

    Here’s what I’ve done:

    1. Created a new students profile on the 2008 server
    2. Copied the profile to \fileserverprofilesstudents.V2
    3. Set the administrators group as the owner on that folder
    4. Added domain users to the security tab and gave them full control
    5. Set the profile path for each of the students accounts to \fileserverprofilesstudents.V2

When I log into the 2008 server using the test student account I created, the profile loads fine. When I log in as any other student I get the error, “The group policy client service failed the logon. Access is denied.”

I thought this was a corrupt profile, so I deleted the profile and created a new one a few more times. I get the same result each time.

Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!
