We have a client with a AD network that has been working fine for months. In the last few days all the users have been having problems with files taking ages to open (pdf, Word, Excel). Regardless whether the file is on the server or has been copied to the local desktop it takes about 60 secs to open. Tiny files (20k) the same. Open off a web site and no problem. Now get this – unplug the workstation from the network and the file on the desktop opens fine!
Thought maybe network switch? Change switch and no better. Server? Copies off the server fine (on to the desktop) but still takes an age to open. Unplug from the network and whoosh.
Get new laptop and plug into network and all fine … aha maybe because it is not joined to the domain? Remove troublesome workstation from the AD domain and … no better! Hmmm!
