Exchange 2007 CSR question

Due to some changes in company policy I am having to go from using self signed certificates for my exchange and web servers to using certificates from an CA. Last week I did the certificate for the web server and when I created the CSR it disabled the self signed certificate immediately, which left my site down for several hours while the request was processed. Will the same thing happen with Exchange 2007 ie. will the self signed certificate be disabled immediately, which I can see causing alot of problems with OWA and RPC over HTTPS.
