Our requirement is to have the Lync software client operate in a seamless fashion with the user’s Polycom VVX handsets. We use Citrix XenApp for our user’s desktops, and the Lync client is running in Citrix.
Our envisaged scenario is as follows:
– User uses the Lync soft client to find and then dial a contact
– They then pick up their handset to continue on the call
Polycom have a solution called “Better Together over Ethernet” which pairs a Polycom handset to Lync, and this works perfectly in a local desktop (fat client) scenario, but does not work under Citrix as it requires the handset to be physically attached to the PC running Lync.
Without predicating the solution, if we can even allow a user to easily transfer a call from the Lync soft client to their handset that would work for us. For example, other SIP PBX’s have a solution that allows an end user to dial *88 on a handset which picks up the call running on their soft client. This would be perfect (but I don’t think Lync supports it).
Another option we looked at was to use the Call Park feature (Park the call in the soft client, and retrieve it on the handset) but this is too cumbersome.
