Group Policy some queries

Hello,
I have a few queries on windows group policies in a domain environment.
1) In Pre-Windows 2008 domain, the group policy settings are stored in SYSVOLGUID

In this folder, I could find Adm/Machine/User and a GPT file. Among all these folders, where exactly is the settings gets stored?
For example, If I define some WSUS settings, where will those settings saved?

2) In 2008 domain, since it uses ADMX/ADML files, where does the settings get stored?

3) I have a 2008 R2 domain with various group policies and so far I have not defined central store for group policy. If I place new PolicyDefinitions folder on DC’s SYSVOL share, is there going to be any issue with the existing group policies? Is it safe to define central store for ADMX/ADML files?
