Build 2025: Microsoft Announces Major AI Upgrades for Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft has announced the general availability of its Microsoft 365 Copilot Wave 2 Spring release at its Build 2025 developer conference. This update brings an updated Microsoft 365 Copilot app, the new Create experience, and Copilot Notebooks tailored for commercial customers.

According to Microsoft, the updated Microsoft 365 Copilot app is designed to enhance human-agent collaboration. It centralizes access to documents, emails, meetings, and chats, allowing users to ask questions or generate content across their entire Microsoft 365 ecosystem. It features tools like Copilot Pages for organizing AI-generated content, audio overviews for summarizing files, and image uploads to enhance productivity directly from the phone.

Microsoft 365 Copilot also allows users to create and edit images using OpenAI’s GPT-4o model. Moreover, the Copilot Notebooks feature allows users to add spreadsheets, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, meeting notes, and more to a notebook.

In June, Microsoft will begin rolling out Copilot Search and Copilot Memory to Microsoft 365 customers. With Copilot Search, users will be able to conversationally ask questions regarding apps and data within the organization. Moreover, the Copilot Memory feature will allow the AI assistant to remember basic information about the user to provide more personalized answers.

Later this month, Microsoft will start rolling out the new Researcher and Analyst agents to commercial customers globally through the Frontier program. The two reasoning agents will be available through the new Agent Store. This new store will also host third-party agents from Microsoft’s partners, including Jira, Monday.com, and Miro.

Microsoft Outlook gets new Copilot features

Microsoft also announced today that the new Copilot capabilities for Outlook mail and calendar are generally available for commercial customers. The new features are designed to enhance productivity by using AI to provide contextual insights and advanced reasoning. Microsoft 365 Copilot helps users manage their inbox more efficiently by summarizing search results and attachments directly within emails. It also helps users prepare for meetings by surfacing and summarizing related emails, documents, tasks, and other resources that are connected to the meeting topic.

Additionally, Microsoft has introduced a couple of new features in Copilot Pages. The latest update will allow users to create Pages from a mobile phone, turn a page into a Word document with a single click, and search and filter a list of pages. Microsoft has also added support for interactive charts and code blocks as output options in Chat and Pages.

GitHub app for Microsoft Teams gets new capabilities

Microsoft has announced that the enhanced GitHub app for Teams is now generally available for commercial customers. This app includes new features such as streamlined actions with slash commands, notification cards, as well as organized pull request conversations with threading support.

The new Outlook features for Microsoft 365 Copilot are just one of the various updates Microsoft announced at its Build 2025 conference this morning. The company also detailed Microsoft 365 Copilot Tuning, which allows customers to use their company data for training AI models that can perform domain-specific tasks.
