Microsoft’s June 2025 Patch Tuesday update introduced a bug that can break the DHCP service on Windows Server versions 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025. On the support page for KB5060842 (OS Build 26100.4349), Microsoft notes as a known issue:

The DHCP Server service might intermittently stop responding after installing this security update. This issue affects IP renewal for clients.

Microsoft says that its working on solving the problem ‘in the coming days’ and will provide more information when it’s available.

The issue prevents some clients from renewing their IP addresses, which can lead to network connectivity problems. While the bug doesn’t appear to affect all users, if a client is unable to renew its IP address, then it could lose connectivity to the network.

As there’s currently no official fix or workaround, if it is affecting your organization you’ll have to roll back the update. And that’s worrying because the latest cumulative update for Windows Server includes important security updates.
