Microsoft has acknowledged a few bugs, including issues with Azure Virtual Desktop apps using App Attach.
Key Takeaways:
Microsoft has announced that Windows 11 version 24H2 (also known as the Windows 11 2024 Update) has reached broad availability. Alongside the release, the company has flagged a new issue affecting Azure Virtual Desktop applications.
Microsoft officially released Windows 11 version 24H2 on October 1, 2024, with several enhancements aimed at performance, security, and user experience. It includes a redesigned Copilot interface, improved phone integration through the Start Menu, and support for Wi-Fi 7. This update also brings hot-patching support for smoother updates, a customized Quick Settings panel, and new AI-powered features for Copilot+ PCs.
“Windows 11, version 24H2, also known as the Windows 11 2024 Update, is broadly available. We have reached the last phase of the gradual rollout for version 24H2 via Windows Update on Settings,” Microsoft explained.
Microsoft says that users on Windows 11 Home and Pro editions, running versions 22H2 or 23H2, will receive the update automatically. For managed devices, IT administrators have the option to deploy the update manually. Users will also have control over when to restart their devices, with the ability to schedule or postpone the reboot.
Microsoft has also published a list of known issues and compatibility holds for Windows 11 version 24H2. Specifically, the company has warned that users might encounter errors when launching Azure Virtual Desktop apps using the App attach feature on their devices. This feature allows apps to be dynamically delivered to user sessions without being installed directly on the system.
Microsoft plans to release a fix for this Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) app bug in June 2025. In the meantime, the company recommends using VHDX (Virtual Hard Disk v2) images instead of CIMFS (Composite Image File System) for app packaging. Microsoft has also confirmed an incompatibility between Windows 11 and a security driver developed by SenseShield Technology Co. As a result, devices with this incompatible driver will be blocked from receiving the update until the issue is resolved.
