M365 Changelog: (Updated) Microsoft Word for the web: New AI-generated document summary when sharing

Summary

Microsoft Word for the web will soon allow users with a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license to include an AI-generated document summary when sharing a Word document. The summary can be included in the share notification email sent to the recipient(s) to provide more context. No action is needed to prepare for this rollout, which will begin mid-March 2024 and complete by early April 2024.

Users will be able to include an AI-generated document summary of a Microsoft Word document when they share that document with other users. The document summary can be included in the share notification email sent to the recipient(s) to add more context for the shared Word document. This feature is only enabled for customers with a Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 license and works only when sharing a Word for the web file.

When this will happen:

General Availability: We will begin rolling out mid-March 2024 and expect to complete by early April 2024 (previously late March).

How this will affect your organization:

Users with a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license will have the option to include a short document summary when sharing a file from the online version of Word.
