M365 Changelog: Reminder – Private Unlisted Groups in Yammer retirement in 7 Days

MC470780 – As part of the Non-Native and Hybrid Yammer Networks being upgraded, Private unlisted (“secret”) groups in Yammer will be retired on December 1, 2022. The retirement of this feature was first announced via the Message Center on September 1, 2022 (MC424414). You can read more about the retirement of Unlisted groups in this blog post which covers the announcement of three features due for deprecation beginning December 1, 2022.

How this will affect your organization:

Your Yammer network will no longer support private unlisted groups. Users will no longer be able to:

  • Create private unlisted groups
  • Use existing private unlisted groups

What you need to do to prepare:

Microsoft recommends that you communicate clearly to group owners of this impending change and coordinate an effort to remove the groups or convert them to a listed private or public group which can be connected with Microsoft 365. More information is covered in the Microsoft Native Mode Troubleshooting FAQ.

If December 1, 2022 is no longer an acceptable date for secret group retirement, please contact support as soon as possible to file an exception. This is the only way to delay the deprecation of secret groups for your network.
