M365 Changelog: Bing Chat Enterprise renamed Copilot; General Availability on December 1

MC689933 – Announced at Ignite 2023, Bing Chat Enterprise has been renamed to Microsoft Copilot. Copilot offers the same commercial data protection for Entra ID (work account) users as Bing Chat Enterprise did. Users will also be able to experience Copilot from a new location: copilot.microsoft.com.

Entra ID users with Microsoft 365 E3, E5, Business Standard, Business Premium, or A3 or A5 for faculty licenses remain eligible for Copilot with commercial data protection at no additional cost. Microsoft 365 F3 licenses will also be eligible at no additional cost and those customers can refer to MC684891 for additional information and timing.

Note: Copilot is not currently available for government cloud customers or for student use.

Copilot will move out of Preview into General Availability on December 1, 2023.

When will this happen:

Timing:

  • November 15, 2023: Bing Chat Enterprise is renamed Copilot.
    • The service plan is now listed as “Copilot” (part name: Bing_Chat_Enterprise)
    • copilot.microsoft.com launches as a new way to experience Copilot
  • December 1, 2023: Copilot moves out of Preview into General Availability.

How this will affect your organization:

As of November 15, Bing Chat Enterprise has been renamed to Copilot. You will still be able to manage Copilot for your users with its service plan, which is now listed as “Copilot” (the part name remains Bing_Chat_Enterprise).

Users in your organization will see the new Copilot name and icon when visiting copilot.microsoft.com. The Copilot name and icon updates will roll out soon for Copilot in Bing, Edge, and Windows. Users will know they are using Copilot with commercial data protection when they see the green “Protected” badge next to their profile information and when they see “Your personal and company data are protected in this chat” written in green text above the chat box.

What you need to do to prepare:

We recommend preparing your users of this change. To help users with this transition, the user adoption kit has been updated to reflect the new Copilot name and now includes a name change email template for change management. It can be found here: https://aka.ms/Copilot/StarterKit
