M365 Changelog: Announcing Public Preview of Power BI and Microsoft Graph Integration

MC466200 – Power BI has integrated with Microsoft Graph, so you can actively interact with and view your Power BI content. Your PBI content can be seen through ‘Recommended’ content within Office Hub and search on Office.com, SharePoint Online, and Bing@Work. You will also be able to see the actions taken on Power BI content such as who viewed it, edited it, or shared the content with you.

This preview’s rollout has already begun and is expected for rollout to be complete by late November.

How this will affect your organization:

Power BI Admins will have the ability to enable this experience for their users. By default, these new capabilities are off unless you enabled the Share data with Microsoft 365 services setting prior to the release of this public preview. Admins will have the ability to enable or disable the setting at any time.

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for changes to be shown upon enabling or disabling the Share data with Microsoft 365 services setting. 

What you need to do to prepare:

By default, these new capabilities are off unless you enabled the Share data with Microsoft 365 services prior to the release of this public preview. To enable or disable this experience follow the steps below:

  1. Log into your Power BI (app.powerbi.com) account from your browser using your admin account credentials.
  2. Click on settings located on the right-hand side of the top banner, proceed to click Admin Portal from the drop-down menu. 
  3. Once in the Admin portal tab, navigate to the Tenant settings tab located in the left navigation pane. 
  4. From inside the tenant settings tab, scroll down to the list of settings titled Share data with your Microsoft 365 services and proceed to click on the setting titled Allow Microsoft 365 services to access Power BI metadata.
  5. Switch the toggle to enabled or disabled and then click Apply to save the changes.

Once the setting is enabled or disabled, it may take ~24 hours for you to see changes within Office.com, SharePoint and Bing@Work.
