Duet AI for Google Cloud Brings Code and Chat Assistance to Developers

Google kicked off its annual I/O developer conference yesterday by showing it was very serious about catching up to competitors in the AI space. Duet AI is the new name of Google’s generative AI efforts, and the company detailed yesterday what to expect from Duet AI in Google Workspace, as well as Duet AI for Google Cloud.

Just like Microsoft is preparing to roll out its Microsoft 365 Copilot across many of its cloud services, Google also wants Duet AI to become the AI-powered collaborator GPC customers rely on every day. And the company certainly needs its Google Cloud Platform to become easier to use if it wants to better compete with AWS and Microsoft Azure.

“Powered by Google’s state-of-the-art generative-AI foundation models, Duet AI for Google Cloud is an always-on AI collaborator that provides help to users of all skill levels where they need it. With Duet AI, we’re on a mission to deliver a new cloud experience that’s personalized and intent-driven, and can deeply understand your environment to assist you in building secure, scalable applications, while providing expert guidance,” Google said yesterday.

What can you do with Duet AI for Google Cloud?

Google introduced yesterday a couple of AI-powered features that are now available in limited preview for Google Cloud customers. For now, the company is focusing on improving developer workloads with AI assistance.

Here are the main features provided by Duet AI for Google Cloud today:

Code assistance: Developers and data engineers working with the Google Cloud can now get real-time code recommendations and suggestions on how to fix vulnerabilities and errors in their Go, Java, Javascript, Python, and SQL code. Code assistance is available in the Google Cloud Console, Cloud Workstations, Cloud Shell Editor, as well as Cloud Code IDE extensions for VSCode and JetBrains IDEs.

Chat assistance: Duet AI lets users developers and IT pros ask questions about cloud-related topics using natural language and get detailed answers without having to browse the web. Chat assistance is available in the Google Cloud console, IDEs, as well as other products and services.

Duet AI for AppSheet: Developers can now use Google AppSheet, Google’s no-code development platform to create business applications on Google Workspace using natural language. They simply need to detail what they want to create and Duet AI will help them connect their data and build workflows automatically.

Google Cloud customers interested in testing these new Duet AI for Google Cloud capabilities can sign up for the Google Cloud AI Trusted Tester Program today. Google said it’s planning to expand access to Duet AI for Google Cloud “very soon.”
