Key Takeaways:

  • AWS adds new agentic AI capabilities to Transform, boosting modernization speed and automation.
  • Organizations can complete full-stack transitions faster and cut costs by shifting to cloud-native alternatives.
  • New AI agents enhance mainframe and VMware modernization with automated analysis, testing, and migration tools.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced yesterday several new agentic AI capabilities for its Transform IT modernization service. These new custom features are designed to help IT teams accelerate enterprise-wide code and application modernization.

AWS Transform is a cloud-based modernization service that uses AI-driven agents to automate the migration of legacy applications, frameworks, and infrastructure to modern, cloud-native architectures. It accelerates code conversion, dependency updates, and platform transitions, and reduces technical debt and cuts costs. AWS Transform enables organizations to modernize at scale, improve developer productivity, and achieve faster digital transformation.

Faster code, API, and framework modernization with AI Agents

According to Amazon Web Services, AWS Transform now leverages agentic AI to revamp legacy systems (such as code, APIs, frameworks, and custom languages), with up to five times faster speed than manual efforts. This service offers pre-built agents for specific programming languages (like Java, Node.js, Python) as well as customizable ones tailored to organization-specific patterns. These agents leverage feedback loops to continuously refine their transformations.

AWS highlighted that organizations can now complete full-stack transitions up to five times faster. Moreover, businesses can transition to cloud-native open-source alternatives to save maintenance and licensing costs by up to 70 percent.

AWS Transform has already processed more than 1.1 billion lines of code and saved customers over 810,000 hours of manual work. These agentic AI capabilities are delivering major efficiency gains for organizations such as Air Canada, Experian, QAD, Teamfront, Thomson Reuters, and Verisk.

Mainframe modernization enhanced with automated analysis and testing

These new AI agents support mainframe modernization by automating code analysis, business rule extraction, testing plans, and domain breakdowns. For instance, the custom-built agents are designed to accelerate legacy code modernization. There is also a new task agent that automatically generates test plans and data collection scripts to speed up test planning and validation.

Lastly, VMware modernization now offers dedicated tools for environment discovery, migration orchestration, security review, and detailed network configuration. There is also the ability for AWS partners like Accenture, Capgemini, and Pegasystems to integrate proprietary tools and domain knowledge into AWS Transform.
