MC241754 – Updated March 2, 2021: Based off of feedback we have updated this post for additional clarity. Thank you for your feedback.
Note: The templates policy feature is not applicable for EDU.
With this update, you can create policies to manage templates that your end users can access when they create a new team while they are using either Teams desktop (Windows/Mac) or Teams on the web.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 70701.
When this will happen
The templates policies are now available in Teams admin center.
How this will affect your organization
You can create policies in the Teams admin center to manage which templates end users can access when they create a new team.
What you need to do to prepare
Within each template policy, designate which templates to show or hide.
- New templates are visible by default.
- Change the default to hide new templates in the Teams admin center > Teams > Templates policies.
Use PowerShell to make batch user assignments to an existing template policy.
