MC462923 – As announced at Ignite 2022, the ability to rename your SharePoint domain URL is generally available to organizations that have less than 10,000 total sites (including OneDrive and SharePoint sites).
When this will happen:
Standard Release: This capability is available now to organizations that have less than 10,000 total sites (including OneDrive and SharePoint sites).
How this will affect your organization:
Organizations evolve throughout their life span, rebranding or expanding through acquisitions or reaching the global market by adding satellite locations. Specific to rebranding, you may want to rebrand your organization’s name, say from Contoso to Fabrikam, or you might have started off with a test name for your tenancy like ContosoQA.sharepoint.com and you wanted to rename to your tenancy’s name.
With the tenant rename capability, you will be able to have the SharePoint domain in all site URLs updated to the new name you choose and continue with that new name going forward.;
What you need to do to prepare:
If you are interested in renaming your SharePoint tenant URL, review our public documentation to learn more about it and how to get started.
If you participated in the preview program of the tenant rename capability, please begin removing any remaining use of the old domain URLs. Redirections from the old to new domain URLs will exist only until the end of 2023.
