M365 Changelog: Microsoft Copilot in Microsoft Teams Meeting Chat will use transcript data when available

Summary

Microsoft Teams Meeting Chat's Copilot will soon access transcript data, improving clarity over previous chat-only results. Rollout starts late June 2024, completing early July. It's automatic for users with a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license and requires no admin action before rollout.

MC800841 – Coming soon for Microsoft Teams meeting chats: Microsoft Copilot in the Teams chat window will now have access to transcript data when a transcript is available. Before this rollout, Copilot in meeting chat only shows results from meeting chat, which has caused confusion in some cases. When a meeting has a transcript, Copilot will prioritize using the transcript. When a meeting has no transcript, Copilot will use the meeting chat. A Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 license is required to use this feature.

When this will happen:

General Availability (Worldwide): Microsoft will begin rolling out late June 2024 and expects to complete by early July 2024.

How this will affect your organization:

After this rollout, your organization will be able to access the transcript data from the Copilot entry point in Meeting Chat.

If the meeting is a recurring meeting, Copilot will only use the transcript from the previous meeting chat until the start of the next instance of the recurring meeting. Users can find transcripts for previous instances of a recurring meeting in the calendar invitation.

This feature is on by default and available to any user with a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license.

What you need to do to prepare:

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified dates with no admin action required before the rollout. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation as appropriate.

Before rollout, Microsoft will update this post with revised documentation.
