MC400566 – Updated August 19, 2022: Microsoft has updated the content with additional details. Thank you for your patience.
Microsoft will be releasing a new Android app for Outlook called Outlook Lite. Outlook Lite brings the main benefits of Outlook in a smaller-sized app with fast performance for lightweight devices on any network. The Outlook Lite app will support Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Hotmail, Live, and MSN accounts. Support for third-party accounts and multi-account support will be enabled in the future.
Outlook Lite does not support Android Work Profile and Mobile Application Management (MAM) for work accounts. Outlook Lite will be initially available only in the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and Venezuela. Support for other countries will be enabled in the future.

When this will happen:
Microsoft will begin rollout in early August and expect rollout to be completed by mid-August.
How this will affect your organization:
Outlook Lite is specifically designed for light-weight devices (devices with low storage, low RAM, or low Android versions (starting 5.1)). It is supported on all networks. The app maintains much of the core functionality of Outlook but has some limitations as highlighted above in the first section. Microsoft recommends users continue using the existing Outlook Android app for the best enterprise experience on devices that support it.
Microsoft also has enabled the Early Access version of Outlook Lite for the other countries in Play Store and this will be promoted to general availability in September.
What you need to do to prepare:
Depending on your organization’s needs, you can evaluate and recommend the right Outlook app to your users (existing Outlook Mobile app on Android or Outlook Lite).
Note: Outlook Lite currently does not support Android Work Profile and Mobile Application Management (MAM), it is only applicable to organizations that do not require the same.
