Microsoft is happy to inform you that the Teams macOS desktop client is set to support Apple Silicon chips natively in the 3rd quarter of the calendar year 2022. This support will be delivered seamlessly to existing users via the usual update process. For new users and installation, the Teams macOS desktop client will come in a Universal Binary PKG which will automatically install natively for Mac devices that run on Intel or Apple Silicon device.

When this will happen:
The Universal Binary Build is expect to start rolling out in late August and complete in mid-September.
You can expect this update to begin rolling out in early September..
How this will affect your organization:
Users using devices that run on Apple Silicon will see optimized performance and reliability in Teams. The only impact you may notice is an increase in the size of the PKG which will be approximately 200 MB.
