M365 Changelog: Microsoft Teams – Group Chat Invitations From Unmanaged Users

MC428514 – Updated October 14, 2022: Microsoft has updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

When using external access for Microsoft Teams, users receiving a group chat invitation from an unmanaged Teams user will be prompted with the option to acknowledge or leave the group chat.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 95051

When this will happen:

Microsoft will begin rolling this feature out in early November (previously early October) and expect to complete rollout by early December (previously early November).

How this will affect your organization:

There are no admin controls related to this feature. Users will see an invitation screen when added to a group chat by an external unmanaged Teams user. At this point they can choose to acknowledge the invitation or leave the group chat. Users will continue to have the option to block and unblock external unmanaged Teams users.
