M365 Changelog: (Updated) Microsoft Teams – Easier Way to Join Teams Meetings for Cloud Video Interop (CVI) users

MC546444 – Updated May 25, 2023: Microsoft has updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Microsoft will soon be releasing a feature for Microsoft Teams users that will allow your meeting participants to join from some non-Teams applications or devices, depending on your guest join settings when you send a Microsoft Teams meeting invite. These participants will join as guests and all of the guest settings applied by your organization will apply for these guest participants.

Benefits:

  • Your users, associates, and customers can join Teams meetings from non-Teams devices through certified CVI providers. If you allow guests to join your Teams meetings through a browser, your guests will also be able to join through supporting CVI providers.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 120855

When this will happen:

Microsoft will began rolling out in May and expect rollout to be complete by late June (previously late May).

How this will affect your organization:

There are no increased risks for you. The meeting invite will, as always, come from you. These guests will only be able to join through a certified CVI provider that has enabled them to join Teams meetings.

What you need to do to prepare:

If you do nothing:

  • When you send a Teams invite, you might have guest participants in your meeting that join through a certified CVI provider.

How to disable these participants:

  • If you want to prevent guest participants from joining through certified CVI providers, you can block guests from joining your Teams meetings. This will also prevent all guests to joining from a browser.
