M365 Changelog: (Updated) Microsoft Teams – Browser Screen Pop for Incoming PSTN Calls

MC445202 – Updated November 3, 2022: Microsoft has updated the post with a link to additional information. Thank you for your patience.

An automatic browser screen will now launch for users when an incoming PSTN call is accepted in Microsoft Teams. The browser screen will display relevant information to the user (CRM data, case data, etc.).

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 98054

When this will happen:

WW and GCC: Microsoft will begin rolling out in early November and expect rollout to be completed by late November.

GCCH and DoD: Microsoft will begin rolling out in December.

How this will affect your organization:

In Teams Admin Center, under Voice – Policies, admins can enable automatic launch of a web app or URL for their users and specify the app/page to launch, passing the caller ID (phone number) to the selected URL or web app. Admins can also assign policies so that only specific users have access to this capability.

Users will now see a browser launch automatically with relevant information including CRM data, case data, etc. when an incoming PSTN call on Microsoft Teams is accepted.

Users can turn off the automatic launch in the user settings (call section).

The browser screen will not pop out if:

  • Policy is disabled in the Teams Admin Center
  • Teams user turns off the capability in the user setting
  • It’s not PSTN incoming call
  • It’s an anonymous PSTN call
  • The call is declined by Teams user

What you need to do to prepare:

We recommend admins test the target web application and understand how a PSTN number search works with the application.
