M365 Changelog: Microsoft and Office 365 users to edit assigned tasks in Project for the web project plans

MC352634 – Updated May 17, 2022: Microsoft has updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

When Microsoft 365 and Office 365 E3 and E5 users are assigned tasks from a project plan built in Project for the web, they can update the progress and mark their tasks’ percent complete without a Project license. This editing capability will be rolling out in May 2022 to tenants with Project Plan 1, Project Plan 3, and Project Plan 5 subscriptions

Key points

  • Timing: begin rolling out in early May and expect to complete by early June
  • This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 88884

How this affects your organization:

The roll out of this task edit capability builds on the Microsoft 365 users’ ability to view shared project plans built in Project for the web.

What you can do to prepare:

There is no action to take for your organization However, if you need to disable the edit task capability for your Microsoft 365 users, then you need to disable the Project for Office service plan; however, taking this action also will remove the ability for Microsoft 365 users to view project plans that have been shared with them.
