M365 Changelog: (Updated) Announcing retirement of the legacy mail flow rules UX in the classic Exchange admin center

MC449929 – Updated November 29, 2022: Microsoft has updated the timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

The retirement process of the mail flow rules user experience in the classic Exchange admin center begins at the end of November. The legacy UX is no longer the default page in the new EAC and is available only in the classic EAC and only until it is retired. This is part of our ongoing transition to move away from the classic EAC for mail flow management, and it is a continuation of our migration to the new EAC (admin.exchange.microsoft.com).

The new mail flow rules UX is now the default experience in the new EAC. Please begin to familiarize yourself with the new experience. Although the UX has been modernized, you will find that most of the workflows have remained the same to ensure a smooth transition.

There are, however, a few workflows that have been changed:

• Rule creation wizard – This new wizard experience is used to create new rules. The wizard walks you through configuring rule conditions and settings with a step-by-step approach to help avoid misconfiguring rules.

• Rules are disabled upon creation – If you want a rule to be enabled, you can enable it from the details panel.

• The landing page shows if the “Stop rule processing” setting is enabled. The “Stop rule processing” setting avoids applying additional rules once this rule processes a message. This is now displayed on the landing page as it is important to know when this setting is turned on for a rule as this can affect additional rules from processing.

How this will affect your organization:

Users will not be able to use the legacy UX in the classic EAC in WW when this change is implemented.

When will this happen:

The legacy experience in the classic EAC will be retired, starting at the end of January 2023 (previously November 2022) and is expected to be complete in February 2023 (previously December 2022).

What you need to do to prepare:

If you still use the legacy experience in the classic EAC, please move to the new mail flow rules UX in the new EAC.
