We have a (tele)banking program on a Windows XP SP2 computer which uses a USB SmartCard for authentication to communicate with the bankserver. Using it locally (console) it works fine, but when the user connects remotely to his desktop using default Windows XP remote Desktop the program returns a error “the smart card resource manager is not running” and looking into the configuration utility of the smart card reader it shows no USB ports anymore. The banking Company says that the Smart Card service is not running, but this service runs perfectly even remotely.
Is it possible that Remote Desktop by design blocking services for running remotely? and can we override this?
