    Hi, Defrag runs on our SBS 2003 server daily close to afternoon. I am trying to figure out what is causing defrag to run at that time. Purpose is to change its time to run either at night or early morning. But issue is from where.

    Here is some extra information :

    1: There is no scheduled task running on the server. Unless there are some hidden tasks but I don’t know how to view them.
    2: We are not running exchange server.
    3: We are running active directory but its online defrag runs at a different time in the evening and early morning. I guess default 12 hour runs.
    4: From different forums found and already tried HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftDfrgBootOptimizeFunction => Enable=N . It didn’t work.

    5: Process explorer shows that defrag was started by
    – System -> SMSS -> Winlogon -> Services -> SVCHost -> dfrgifc.exe & dfrgntfs.exe
    – dfrgntfs.exe runs with “-Embedding” parameter.

    6: Some more information from process explorer but I have no clue what it means or how I can trace the caller who is running defrag on the server.

    Process: dfrgntfs.exe Pid: 9736

    I have absolutely no idea how to find the program which is running this defrag. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks
