    My problem is as follows:

I started off with an NT4 Server OS on an old Gateway PC. I made an image (using Acronis True image) of the OS, put it on an identical Gateway and then upgraded the OS to Windows 2000 Server. Everything was still ok then so I made an image of this and put the image onto a new Dell machine.

As expected this did not boot and complained of a hal.dll mismatch. I ran an ‘in-place upgrade’ and the OS was able to boot-up and I could log in and run the app that needed to work. The problem I’m having though is that the OS is no longer in a good state. I can’t open any MMC (i.e. Device manager, Event viewer, Services, ect), can’t install any drivers and I get script errors when I load IE.

    I have tried the following:

Reinstalling the latest service pack – gets half-way through then says it cannot continue
Installing IE 6 sp1 – installs but I still get errors
Installing Microsoft Script – installs but I still get errors
Installing drivers – i managed to get the chipset driver installed but nothing else works

    Anyone have any ideas?
