    Hi All,

I am in the process of migrating a client from a 2003 based environment to a 2008 R2 based environment. One of the things that has cropped up is the poor default search functionality in a default install of Server 2008 R2 (ie you can only search by file name and date created etc).

I am happy to install the Windows Search Service which is part of the File Services role, but need to understand the likely impact to server performance before doing so.

The servers I would install on are a remote desktop services server (aka Terminal Server), and a file server. I appreciate the initial indexing will incur a performance hit (the client has over 1TB of data) but after that, does indexing place a heavy load on server resources?

Ive searched around the net to try and find some answers and real world experience but am struggling to find anything.

    Thanks for any advice

    Paul
