this concerns exchange 2000.
i have given a user full mailbox access and read permissions in exchange advanced -> mailbox rights to a mailbox used by a department. the user also has “send as” permissions for this mailbox. this mailbox has 2 smtp addresses assigned to it.
the user cannot send emails from this mailbox when using the primary smtp address. the mails come back saying “message undeliverable” and contain the message “you do not have permissions to send mails to this recipient. please contact your system administrator”. doesn’t matter to whom she sends a mail from the primary smtp address. either within or outside the company. the error message is always the same.
if she uses the other smtp address assigned to this mailbox, everything works fine.
