We have the following situation: one main office with Windows 2008 Server R2 with AD and File server with all of the users, including the ones from the branch office location [!!]. Then we have the branch office with the same operating system that needs to be configured.
What is the best solution to allow users logging from the branch office to the domain, joining the domain, and using the file server. As for the file sharing role, for some folders the branch office will be the server but for most of the part, the main office will. Replication is necessary.
Technically RODC does not accept new computers since it cannot update the directory. So this is not an option? Or if the directory is already complete then a RODC suffices for the branch office? Is DFS enough for file replication since not every workstation is Win 7 Ultimate as such BranchCache won’t perform ideally. Should we just allow ports and make the DNS entry for the main office DC from the branch as well?
What would be the best situation without over-complicating things? :?
