In my company we have PDC on Windows NT 4.0 based server and BDC also running on old Windows NT 4.0 based server. DNS for internal network is running on AIX BIND. The servers are hosting only one Domain with around 70 users and few groups.

What would be the best migration plan for migrating everything without least problems to Windows 2003 AD?

Domain name must stay the same all the time. Upgrade is not an option, cause the hardware is too old…

I was thinking in deploying another BDC running Windows NT on vmware server then after replicating upgrading it to 2003 AD… and then installing AD on the clean standalone server and making this one after replication PDC and the one in vmware enviroment would then be BDC. Does this sound good?

When should i take NT based BDC and PDC offline?

Is there an easier way of doing this?

What should I do with DNS which is now running on UNIX? How to move DNS painlessly into Windows 2003 enviroment?

PS.: Have in mind that I am all total active directory beginner…

Is there anything else I have forgotten…
