AD Sites and Logins

We have several sites and a central datacenter. All sites can route to datacenter servers. Each site is on a different subnet and sites are connected by site-to-site VPNS.

All sites have been configured in AD sites and services to ensure logins are processed by the local DC’s.

At one of our sites we have a single domain controller that also hosts a DFS replica of our file shares and roaming profiles etc to speed up logins and file access from users located in that site.

I want to know if the only domain controller in the site described above goes offline then will logon requests automatically be redirected to our domain controllers in the central datacenter by default – or does additional configuration have to be setup for this to happen?

All DC run Windows 2008 R2.

    Thanks in advance.
