    Hi all,

I will be getting a server that will have 12 drives. My goal is to get a good balance of speed and redundancy. Looking at costs, I am leaning towards near line drives.

    Disks:

    1&2 – mirror for OS
3 – hot spare for OS
    4 – 10 – six drive raid 10 – storage for VMs
    11 – 12 – hot spares for raid 10

drives are all NL-SAS 7,200 3tb drives. By some weird coincidence these are the most cost-effective drives I’ve found.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

    Rob
